What Determines the Price of a Gold Rosary?

There are many types of gold rosaries, and their cost depends on several factors beyond just the weight of the metal, including:
- Type of metal used (purity and color)
- Weight of the rosary (determined by both length and part size)
- Craftsmanship
For example, an 18K gold rosary will naturally cost more than the same model in 14K or 9K. Similarly, a long 66 cm rosary will have a higher price than a choker-style version. Weight significantly impacts the final price, as does gold purity.
What people often overlook, nevertheless, is the cost of craftsmanship. This factor not only influences the design and aesthetics but also determines the durability and strength of the piece.
The history of the gold rosary is deeply intertwined with Quadrifoglio S.p.A., and with the skill we have built over the years in the manufacturing of gold beads.
Glue fastening Rosary (bonded)

This method involves the use of special adhesives to secure the balls of the chain.
Materials used: Gold for the chain and balls, resistant and invisible adhesive.
Procedure:
- The chain is laid out with the links arranged evenly.
- The gold balls are placed at pre-arranged points along the chain.
- A small amount of glue is applied between the ball and the corresponding shirt
- The rosary is left to dry for the time necessary for the adhesive to solidify completely
Disadvantages
Less resistance over time, especially in case of frequent use or in contact with chemical substances.
Advantages
Simple, inexpensive processing.
Fixing by opening the gold chain links

In this method, the chain links are manually changed to include and secure the balls. As in the figure above.
Materials used: Gold chain and balls.
Procedure:
- Find the points where the balls will be fixed.
- The links are slightly enlarged using specific pliers.
- Each ball is inserted and blocked by the enlarged links.
- The mesh is closed precisely, ensuring a stable fixation.
Disadvantages
Aesthetically imperfect finish. The difference in the size of the chain links is noticeable.
Advantages
Good resistance and no use of adhesives.
Rosaries made with gold knots

Gold rosaries with knots combine gold processing with knotting techniques. These are often also used in traditional rosaries made of rope or other materials. The principle is to create spaces between the pearls (or beads) with gold knots.
Materials used: Gold chain and balls.
Procedure:
- Design: The design of the rosary is chosen. It defines the type of beads (smooth, faceted, engraved) and the size of the knots.
- Creating knots: A thin braided or soldered gold wire is used to separate the pearls.
- Assembly: The sections of the rosary are joined with a cross and a central medal. This is often achieved by welding or by setting small gold rings.
- Finishing and polishing: The rosary is polished to enhance the brilliance of the gold. It is also checked to guarantee the tightness of the knots and the resistance of the structure.
Disadvantages
- Aesthetics: The presence of knots makes the product less refined than a welded rosary.
- Possible thread wear: If the knots are made of non-gold thread, they may wear out over time and need maintenance or repairs.
- The product is heavier and thus expensive, precisely because of the use of gold thread to make the knots
Advantages
- Flexibility and resistance: The knots prevent the grains from rubbing together, reducing the risk of wear.
- Safety: If the thread were to break, the knots prevent all the beads from scattering. This would occur with a necklace strung without knots.
Welding of the artisanal rosary

The most traditional and resistant method consists in fixing the balls by manual welding. And it is the only method with which at Quadrifoglio S.p.A. we produce our rosaries.
Our specialized goldsmiths hand-weld all the balls one by one. It’s not a job where you can improvise. The goldsmith must be capable of performing welding impeccably and essentially invisible. Otherwise it would compromise the aesthetics of the rosary.
Materials used: Gold chain and balls, solder (if necessary), soldering tools.
Procedure:
- The balls are placed exactly at the desired points along the chain.
- Each ball is manually welded to a chain link using a micro torch and precision tools.
- After welding, the rosary is subjected to a cleaning and polishing treatment to remove any residues and perfect the aesthetics.
Disadvantages
- The complexity of the processing makes labor more expensive
Advantages
- Lightness of the product (producible starting from 2 grams)
- Very high durability
- Artisanal quality goldsmith workmanship
- Use of alloy components (the color of the rosary is already obtained in the semi-finished product used to make it)
- The rosary does not change color with wear
Choose the best product
The choice of method for making gold rosaries depends on the desired quality level and the project budget.
In Quadrifoglio S.p.A. each rosary is created using alloy components. The color is obtained by alloying the gold to various other metals already in the semi-finished product. This means that the rosary does not change color with use.
We have industrialized our production processes. Today we produce large volumes of product for markets all over the world: high-end rosaries for the jewelry sector. This is why hand welding is the most suitable solution for us to guarantee a durable and refined product. The advantages of this process are many more than the disadvantages. Above all, we value the trust of our customers. We have built this trust and the market over 50 years of activity.
